On Castelvetro’s hills we can find this little farm in which time seems to have frozen in 1920, when Sir Mario Balugani took up the art of making Lambrusco wine with love, from the vineyard to the bottle. The barn where winemaking takes place, after a careful renovation, is an original farmhouse made of bricks and stones. From the porch, with cross vaults, you can discern a breathtaking landscape and a ridge planted with vineyards. The farm takes up a five-hectare field.
Roberto, Sir Mario’s son, continues to preserve the ancient local oenological traditions, by selecting a well-framed Lambrusco wine. Being a vine-dresser is a rare privilege and it is absolutely rewarding: the high-quality products are the evidence of this reality. Balugani knows modern winemaking technologies, but he also uses ancient and complex techniques, such as those used to produce the best wine of the farm: the “Sfecciato", which is obtained by the prestigious classic method, also called champagne method. The term “Sfecciato” means “without dregs”, which are solid particles naturally produced during fermentation in the bottle. In this winery, winemaking is carried out in harmony with the natural rhythms and cycles, a typical rural wisdom more and more difficult to meet and defend.
